Fly

A fly bit(叮) the head of a bald(秃头的) man who, trying to kill it,
only succeeded in hitting himself hard on the head.

Escaping(逃脱), the fly made fun(玩笑) of him, saying,

“You who have wished to revenge(报复), even with death, the bite(叮) of
a tiny insect(昆虫),see what harm(伤害) you have done to yourself in the
process!”

The bald(秃头的) man replied(回答), “I hurt(弄伤) myself by
mistake(无意中), but you hurt(弄伤) me on purpose.

I wish that I could have killed you, even if by doing so I had
hurt(弄伤) myself even more!”

MORAL: Don’t hurt(弄伤) yourself to get revenge(报复) on another.

                                                      The Bee(蜜蜂) and
Zeus

A queen(王后) bee(蜜蜂) flew up to heaven(天国) to give Zeus some fresh
honey(蜂蜜).

Zeus, happy with the gift(对…感到满意), promised(许诺) to give her
whatever she should ask for.

She said, “Give me a sting((昆虫的)刺), so if any man tries to take my
honey(蜂蜜), I can hurt(伤害) him.”

Zeus was very unhappy, as he loved men, but could not refuse(拒绝)

A thief(小偷) got into a beekeeper(养蜂人)’s property when its owner was
away and stole(偷窃) all the honey(蜂蜜).

When the owner came back and saw that the honey(蜂蜜) was gone,he stood
there thinking about what had happened.

The bees(蜜蜂) then came back to their home and when they found the
beekeeper(养蜂人) there,they attacked him fiercely(猛烈地) with their
stings((昆虫的)刺).

The beekeeper(养蜂人) said to the bees(蜜蜂), “You stupid(愚蠢的)
creatures(生物)!

You let the man who stole(偷窃) your honey(蜂蜜) get away
unpunished(未受惩罚的),

while you direct your anger at me, the person who takes care of you and
tries to protect(保护) you!”

MORAL: People often blame(把…归咎于) their misfortunes(不幸) on their
friends, rather than their enemies(敌人).

                                              The Belly(胃) and the Body
Parts

One day, all the body parts realized(意识到) that they were doing all
the work,and the belly(胃) was getting all the food.

They held a meeting, and after a long discussion(讨论), decided to stop
work until the belly(胃) agreed to help.

So for a day or two, the hands refused(拒绝) to take food,the mouth
refused(拒绝) to receive(接受) it,and the teeth(牙齿) had no work to do.

But after a few days, the other body parts began to find that they were
not in good condition.

The hands could hardly move, and the mouth was dry, while the legs were
unable to support the body.

They found that even the belly(胃), in its quiet way, was doing
necessary work.

They all must work together or the body will go to pieces.

MORAL: It takes all kinds of people to make human society work.
